How I met Martin
- In late 2020, around 4 months after leaving Butenix and trading with ICMarkets, I met Martin Sabljak on Telegram. I met him at a time when I was not Trading well.
- I searched on Telegram "Manual Forex Trading" and found a group. Martin was in that group. People came and went in that group. Humans say a lot of things. None of which can be believed. The chance of you meeting a real friend on Telegram is close to zero.
- For me though, I met two. One was a gentleman named Jack who lives west of London. I met Jack in person with my wife eventually. Although Jack is not a trader, but he was in that 'Manual Forex Trading' group. He seemed both receptive as well as responsive to the utter nonsense I talk about sometimes. This is how we became friends. The other was Martin - a determined trader. A 6' 6" sportsman.
- Neither Martin nor myself were funded traders at Proprietary Trading Firms at the time when we first started chatting on Telegram. Eventually, Martin got funded first in 2021 - and I later, in 2022. I collaborated my previous trading ideas since 2015 with Martin's, and together, we each became better traders.
- Eventually, I met Martin as well. By 2025, I have spent no less than 80,000 minutes of my life discussing trading with Martin. This equates to around 1,400 hours. I made this calculation by taking the number of days I have known Martin, subtracted the weekends, and then multiplied the amount of time we spent exchanging ideas on trading days.
- Between 2015 - 2020, I thought I was the king of trading. Having never faced issues with my trading, I was the master of my own domain.
- The 1.5 years at ICMarkets between mid-2020 to the end of 2021 taught me to stay humble and to accept that anything can happen in trading. If it were guaranteed, or that easy... everyone would do it. The truth is, things change, markets change.
- The best strategy, is a hybrid strategy - together, between Martin and I. When one person doesn't do well, you hope the other person can pick up the slack. It is a diversification of eggs even within the same trading account. I learned that teamwork reaped benefits. If nothing else, it should create a more stable growth curve.
- Re: Proprietary Trading Firms - Martin manages his own FTMO account, and I manage my own Proprietary Trading accounts as well. It is prohibited to have the same trades on different Trading Accounts at the same Prop. Firm. Although we currently do not have overlapping Prop. Accounts, but that could change one day. It is better to have a practice in place where we are independent.
